Project Manager / Partner

Like a lot of people in the industry, Tom Peterson’s interest in construction began as a kid when he could often be found hanging around construction sites or messing around in his dad’s hobby workshop.  Tom paid his dues in the field in the 1980’s where he worked as a laborer, mason tender, carpenter, and installer of solar panels.  From 1989 through 1996 he served in the nonprofit world as the Housing Rehabilitation Specialist for the Burlington Community Land Trust (now the Champlain Housing Trust). Tom also served as vice-president of Prime Construction and was co-owner of a bath and kitchen remodeling franchise. He founded Peterson Consulting (PCI) in 2003 driven by the simple belief that projects should be as trouble-free as possible, and when they are, everybody benefits. Since its founding, PCI has served clients in education, healthcare, housing, transportation, and more.  As of early 2022, PCI had managed scores of capital projects totalling over $190,000,000 in constructed value.

In the spring of 2022 Tom sold PCI to a team consisting of a long-term employee and a long-term client, confident that under this new leadership PCI will continue to serve a growing list of clients. Tom will continue to provide strategic advice and support to the new owners during the transition period.

Retiring from PCI, Tom is looking forward to sailing on Lake Champlain and along the east coast, making good use of his USCG 100 Ton Master merchant mariner license.
